The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has received an email claiming that a person linked to the Taliban will carry out an "attack" in Mumbai, police said on Friday. The Mumbai office of the investigating agency received the threat email on Thursday, following which the city police and the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) were alerted, the official said.
According to police, the email address used to send the threatening message contained "CIA" and the sender claimed that an individual linked to the Taliban would carry out an attack in the city. Police have launched an investigation, the official said.
A similar email was also sent to the federal agency last month. According to him, the police conducted an investigation and found no substance in him. The police suspect that it could be mischief as such emails were also sent to the investigating agency earlier, the official added.
